FedEx Cup Standings Update

The homies (or should I say hommes) are in France this week. They return to Le Golf National, the site where the “Moliwood” love story was born and the the US was moli-whopped 17.5-10.5 during the 2018 Ryder Cup. This time they are visiting for the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris. This is only the third time we’ve seen golf in the Olympics since it’s re-introduction to the modern games. There’s obviously no FedEx Cup points up for grabs this week; they’re competing for honor, glory, and country.

Players We Are Keeping An Eye On

All eyes are on Xander Schauffele this week. While a win in Paris wouldn’t help him make up the 1,936 point differential between him and Scottie Scheffler, it would make things more difficult in determining who gets that coveted “Player of the Year” trophy at the end of the year. It would also put some pressure on Scottie heading into the playoffs to know that he has to out-play him if he wants to hoist that Fed-Ex Cup trophy.

The Wyndham Championship will be the last chance for players to make a grab for some points and make some moves in the rankings. Just this week, Shane Lowry committed to teeing up in Greensboro. He is currently sitting in the 10th spot and likely hopes to lock in to the Comcast Top 10 before the playoffs begin.

Three other names who committed to play in North Carolina next week: Jordan Spieth, Min Woo Lee, and Nicolai Hojgaard. Lee and Spieth are currently in the playoffs but just barely, sitting at 62 and 63. They’re each hoping to make a jump to a more comfortable position that doesn’t have the potential to get knocked out of contention. Nicolai Hojgaard, on the other hand, is sitting in the 80th spot. Here’s hoping his performance in North Carolina will be enough to bump him into the qualifying 70.

Next On The Tee

Next week is the last and final tournament in the regular season, which means it’s the last opportunity for players to make any moves in the rankings and make it into the playoffs. It can be a do-or-die finish, as we saw last year when it came down to one stroke that put Justin Thomas out of the top 70.
